Desgali and Çciclopedia offline

Desgalipedia and Çciclopedia has been facing server peaks since yesterday. At this time (12 h UCT -3) plus one fall. I tried to make a statement of the situation for at least half an hour here and also in UnMeta was in trouble.

• Desgalipedia = error 522
• Çciclopedia = error 524

Problem sending emails

Images on Logimalpédie

Images newly uploaded to Logimalpédie do not have thumbnails. I uploaded logimalpedie:File:Beige.svg and logimalpedie:File:Beige.png yesterday, and you can see on those pages that there are no thumbnails in the file history where there should be and the SVG file is not successfully converted to a PNG. You can see here and here what these images look like when used on pages: no thumbnail, only a short gray vertical line. At the file path where the thumbnail should be, there is an error message "Erreur lors de la création de la miniature : Fichier manquant". When you try to open the SVG in the Media Viewer, it gives the message "Désolé, le fichier ne peut être chargé. Il semble y avoir un problème technique. Vous pouvez réessayer ou signaler le problème s'il persiste. Erreur : error in provider, thumb info not found".

Images uploaded in 2013 and earlier do not have this problem, but I don't know when it first arose because nothing was uploaded between 2013 and 2018. It could have been the most recent update or an earlier one. The permissions on the thumbnail directory may be set wrong. I wonder if/when we'll get a resolution to this. I've just discovered that Irratiopedia has two of these on its main page. "Error generating thumbnail" again. The rest of the message is "Het maken van een miniatuurafbeelding is te vaak mislukt (4 keer of vaker). Probeer het later nog eens." (I can't read this, but Google Translate says it means "Creating a thumbnail image has failed too often (4 times or more). Please try again later.") Those images were uploaded in 2013 and 2014 respectively, so this must have been going on for quite some time. For some reason the PNG file has a .jpeg added to the thumbnail name and the JPG has a .png added. Part of the same thing or yet another problem? No idea. Yes, Yes. We suffered the same problem in Desgalipedia the last days 5 and 6 of that month, before the servers fell again. I begin to notice a pattern that the problem may be a faulty server. Uploading Images

I hate to admit it but I noticed in this third server crash (last Saturday on Wikimerda) a certain pattern with the same problems in the images, either loading new images or the images are in miniature. Uploading images (part 2)

In Desciclopédia

On this February 14th some users reported that there were problems on uploading images in both Desciclopédia and Uncommons. When we try to upload an image we just see an error meassge saying:

O arquivo que você está tentando carregar parece estar vazio. Isto poderá ser devido a um erro na escrita do nome do arquivo. Por favor verifique se realmente deseja carregar este arquivo.

I tried every Desciclopédia mirror known to man. The only one I was able to upload was pesquisa.la. I thought we could use pesquisa.la only to upload files and then use another mirror to browse the site normally, but the files uploaded in pesquisa.la only show in said domain, that's strange. I asked UltraJohnnÿ how he uploaded a file, since he was the only one who uploaded something in the last 2 days. Mgs 14:03, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

From what I saw Alhazred notify again the pesquisa.la is an obsolete domain and for sure a new update will bugar that mirror. In Wikinet

Same problem on Wikinet. I tried uploading from an external link (it worked fine before) and the error I got is Erro ao alterar arquivo temporário ("error updating temporary file").
However, I was able to upload files just fine on Wikinet's mirror. Try uploading at Desciclopédia's mirrors that it might work. Mgs 13:46, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Can the Global Uncyclomedia project can block editing korean uncyclopedia wiki?

ang, kw, nap, vi, xh have their language codes defined, but the link is dead. Please modify or remove the link.

I've checked both zh-tw:Special:Interwiki and yue:Special:Interwiki (the two uncycs I'm mainly working on), and both sites define zh-hk as "http://uncyclopedia.hk/wiki/香港語:$1". No interwiki definitions are edited locally recently. According to zh-tw:Special:Logs/interwiki, the last local edit on the zh-hk definition is in 2011, before the namespace is removed. Change of Korean Uncyclopedia(백괴사전)

The Korean version of Uncyclopedia[1](백괴사전) has crushed since last August, and still not recovered yet.

Sadly, Korean Uncyclopedia(백괴사전) seems unlikely to recover. The recent message of administrator says that he tried many times to contact the developer, but all of the attempts have failed.

So, the users of 백괴사전 have made their successor site. The successor of Uncyclopedia is 진실위키, which means TruthWiki in English.

Although the site is based on Miraheze, it's slowly attracting the users of Uncyclopedia. It will be able to replace Uncyclopedia in some months.

Please take over the Korean membership of Uncyclopedia to 진실위키(TruthWiki). We can't wait 백괴사전 to be recovered anymore.

You cannot edit by directly entering UnData, even though I was an administrator, I realized that. What should be done is:

1. Join UnData from any wiki except UnMeta/UnCommons.
2. Edit depart this way.

I know that this ins't the correct place to explain this, but every page is blocked for edition in UnMeta. So, I'm sysop and bureau' in Desciclopédia, one of the biggest (maybe the biggest) of projects in the Unmeta. Dragomaniaco is a notorious vandal in Desciclopédia, blocked in the site:

Sorry, it was not known to us that there was an illogigopedia in Spanish. And most illogicopedias are on Lyrithia's server not here at UnMeta (there is only the Portuguese version). I believe there are 3 alternatives:

1. The easiest, request the administration of mihareze the administration of the wiki under this problem of lack of administrators.
2. Request Lyrithya to adopt the project but it will cause the wiki to be abandoned for 6 months until it is eliminated.
3. You can ask Inciclopedia users to adopt the project even on different servers, but I think it is very difficult.

A user of the Lusophone Uncyclopedia (Desciclopédia) reported that he cannot upload images on the wiki and the following error message is displayed:

Continuous server downtime

The server is experiencing downtime in the last few months, and often lasts for a relatively long time, which prevents me from doing any primary maintenance work during my active period (usually 10:00-16:00 UTC, sometimes starting from about 05:00 UTC) at all. 5. Upload image: Abuse filter prevents and blocks user for 1 year (PS: change blocking time to 6 months)
6. Log in and edit normally: The system gives an error in the database (reason for the report)

Influx of weird users and useless spam articles

This might sound like it should belong in Ban Patrol but here's the thing: Recently in Tolololpedia there have been a huge influx of newly logged in users in a pretty short time and they're making spam articles that are mostly deleted. They mostly write weird stuff ranging from locksmiths to windows to glasses to sex toys. As i'm typing this right now, there are still new users making a new account in Tolololpedia (you might need to watch the recent changes for awhile to get what i mean). It already happened for a few days but they're on full force since last night with new users being created in under 5 minutes or less along with the weird articles
(P.S: I kinda forgot how things are around here so i created the Add a new record! page by clicking the Add a new record button on this page and typing the problem there. Sorry)

Unfortunately we weren't able to detect their IP range. We guess that the spammers are either from Canada or a Cyrillic speaking country (probably Russia). To this day the spam is going on and we're still trying to delete many of the articles. One admin said we should close account registration.

UnData: Could not save due to an error

Certain pages became inaccessible

The servers are having serious problems now. Some hours there have been crashes on the wikis the error pages are multiplying. Possibly, the servers must be experiencing technical problems. The TemplateStyles MediaWiki extension is not installed on Chinese Uncyclopedia. This issue should be fixed. Ericliu1912 (talk) 11:45, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

I was seeing weird errors caused by Extension:TemplateStyles not allowing various command-line maintenance scripts to run properly. Remove the extension and that issue goes away, but then anything which had been saved with sanitized-css as the content type wouldn't display properly, instead throwing a page of error messages.

Desciclopédia has a problem

http://desciclopedia.org is very slow, glitching, and going offline. Users can't edit the site properly. Some functions are broken too, especially the "div class=NavFrame"

http://pesquisa.la is slightly better because some functions are working in this alternate URL. But the slowness is the same.

The problem is general across all wikis. There are terrible problems loading images. About Carlb's absence, the explanation may be this:

What? A Desciclopédia (e outras wikis hospedadas pelo nosso servermaster Carlb) já estão há 1 semana recebendo ataque de spambot. We've been having bot attacks since December and I had a bad interruption because I suffered a stroke in early February and was away for 18 days, only returning on Carnival Monday. There are still 3 wikis that suffer too many attacks and I'm not sysop on any of them. (asturian, catalan and .info).

Should have looked at the full history, we had a wave of bot attacks on the 16th of April and this answer from Carlb is from the 13th. Between the 11th and the 13th I was away because I sent my notebook to the concert due to the motherboard having failed and my blockages here, at Uncyclopedia dalmata, which were the most affected were only on the 17th (this Monday). My answer had nothing to do with Carlb's presence and besides I spent the 15th and 16th intervening on Wikinet because a problem happened where he himself and Cartoonist were there on the 13th. I'm not seeing a difference between desciclopedia.org and "search there" (pesquisa.la) for the pages you mentioned. The images in question are giving bugs in the thumbnails. The problem verified in the Desciclopédia case, even the entire image appears buggy. In the second case, the problem affects only the thumbnail. Please, I request without delay a verification on the server where the images are stored. It's still a serious problems for wikis in some languages, since I found that any new images with file name containing any non-ASCII characters are not correctly rendered, and many languages use non-ASCII characters exclusively. You'd likely have fewer problems em português than em arabe or in a few other languages which do not use the Western character set at all. Україна is not happy right now. This looks to be caused by our outdated MediaWiki version (1.35) as I tried the new version (1.39.3) on one abandoned wiki on this server and was able to thumbnail Commons images from there (Commons itself is still on the old version for now). PHP issue? And then there's the mw:Extension:Math problem, where we were using TexVC which isn't supported any more, as of MW 1.32+. The extension does offer a couple of other options which might work. I'm seeing weirdness where the extension is trying to connect to wikimedia.org for math, which is causing issues if that server doesn't accept the request. Carlb (talk) 20:00, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Looks to be an issue with Extension:CheckUser not adding a database field `cu_changes`.`cuc_actor` which should have been created by maintenance/updata.php during the MW 1.35→1.39.3 upgrade. If I add that field manually on the dozens of affected wikis, then run maintenance/rebuildrecentchanges.php this annoying issue goes away. Carlb (talk) 14:06, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Spanking art wiki has technically damaged pages

About two years ago, suddenly an estimated 5% of all pages of the Spanking art wiki http://spankingart.org/ got technically damaged. These pages display no longer because MediaWiki thinks the latest page revision has the number 0. These pages can no longer be edited, but the page history is usually still there. I found a relatively easy way to fix these broken pages, which was, whenever I encountered such a page (by chance), I copied the latest version from the page history to the clipboard, deleted the page, and created it under the same name as a new page, pasting the old contents into it.

Since last week, this workaround works no longer. So now we really need technical help. See for example the page http://spankingart.org/wiki/Spanks_and_Excuses. If I try to delete the page, I now get an error message "Internal error / [c957fd38b174acce4700e2e5] 2023-05-12 08:32:29: Fatal exception of type "LogicException")". And if I try to create the broken page newly, I get an edit conflict that can not be resolved. Could a technical admin (e.g. Carlb) please have a look at this problem? I inform you that we have updated MediaWiki to a revamped version. So, it may be that as it should belong to Uncyclomedia and your wiki is on our servers these changes are disturbing your wiki.

From what I'm seeing, findAnomalies.php is no longer bundled with MediaWiki - although the too-brief-to-be-useful Manual:Database inconsistencies does still mention it for some reason. There is a attachLatest.php which looked promising, but didn't seem to be much help as often it's the second-to-latest revision which is the good data. Some pages (like User:Sannse) had no valid revision to go to, but for the others a manual fix is possible. It requires access to the database - to go to the article, go to the "history" tab, click on the most recent "good" version and get the article name and the last known-good revision ID. Edit the Page table directly on the database to stick that revision number in place of what's there. Any of the pages I've looked at seem to be from the original 2012 import to this server, and the revision number of the last-good version is typically one less than whatever the system's currently pointing to. I doubt that this is a result of the 1.39.3 upgrade as the affected pages are all imports from ten years ago. If you let me know which pages need to be fixed (a list of titles) and if there's at least one valid revision in the history for each, I can fix this manually - how many are still broken? This is the sort of weirdness I'm seeing at the database level (using User:Sannse as an example of something completely broken as obviously she does not exist here) the `page` table:

SELECT * FROM `page` WHERE `page_namespace` = 2 AND `page_title` = 'Sannse';

returns `page_id`=1333, `page_latest`=13508 - from which the `revision` table:

SELECT * FROM `revision` WHERE `rev_page` = 1333;

yields only one revision (with `rev_page`=1333, `rev_id`=13508, `rev_comment_id`=0, `rev_actor`=0).

• Pre-MediaWiki 1.31, there was no `actor` table, no multi-content revisions and it was possible to go to the `text` table and grab the article text. Simple enough.
• Unfortunately, the "newer" versions from MW 1.31 onward (and this was a while ago, if we're upgrading MW 1.35 → MW 1.39.3 now) added a few extra steps. Getting the text for an individual revision requires taking `revision`.`rev_id`, looking in the `slots` table (is this some sort of casino gamble?) to get `slots`.`slot_content_id` and then looking in the `content` table to get a `content`.`content_address` which can then be used to get the actual text from the `text` table. Oddly, that much was working.

Where this started going wrong? The `actor` names and the edit comments are now in their own separate tables. That's OK if everyone who ever posted (including anon-IP's) is actually listed in the `actor` table. Most are - even that 127.0.0.1 address which always points to your own machine is there as actor #354 in this example.

Unfortunately, someone having `rev_actor`=0 on their edits is bad. This is an unperson. Doubleplusungood. Must revise fullwise. The current MW 1.39.3 refuses to even display these revisions in the article history, even though the text exists. If one is the current or latest revision for a page? Things start going badly wrong. These will be mostly robots, Wikia staff and other garbage which existed before the import but which doesn't match any local `actor` - not even an anon-IP.

If, out of idle curiosity, I were to take a backup of the `revision` table and then try

UPDATE `revision` SET `rev_actor` = 354 WHERE `rev_actor` = 0;

the whole problem kinda, sorta goes away. It doesn't restore attribution if it's missing, but it does make all of the broken revisions readable by assigning them to the fictional IP user, User:127.0.0.1 who (despite not being a real person or even a globally-routeable address) is in the table.

Because the revisions exist (it's just the rev_actor field which has 0 instead of the author info) a script like attachLatest.php unhelpfully finds nothing wrong. Nice try and thanks, but no.

I'm not sure what to make of this. The only posts affected are revisions from more than ten years ago, but as a "solution" assigning these edits to a placeholder IP is kludgey. Even if the original "editor" was likely a bot. Carlb (talk) 03:06, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Ah, so you can identify the affected pages/revisions by searching for `rev_actor`=0? That's good news. If I understand you correctly, the `rev_actor`=0 values are the cause of the trouble, and to me it sounds like a good fix to set them to an existing value if that repairs it and doesn't cause any other issues. I did find an old database backup from mid-2019 which has the `revision` table before `rev_actor` and `rev_comment` were split out into separate tables. Edits like this (User:Sannse removing a picture of some kid doing the dishes from the article on "Extra chores" on 24 January 2008 because, well, "(- image of child)" should be properly attributable from the data in the old backup, to squarely place blame where it belongs. That was right before Wikia pulled the plug, but it is part of the project's history which ought to be preserved.

One more question: (and this is unrelated) I see that you're still using the "old" Monobook skin which was in use in 2005 when the project started. Wikimedia has reskinned Wikipedia and its sibling wikis twice since then - to Vector in 2010 (which is still on most of the Uncyclopedias) and to Vector-2022 last year (which is on this wiki, and is on all of the Wikipedias). Individual users can override this from Special:Preferences on the "Appearance" tab. Do you want to go to either of these two as the default skin, or do you want to stick with what you have? That's great news! Did you already apply the fix? On a sample of 50 random pages, today I got not a single broken page.

As to the default skin, I personally like Monobook best because it is the most compact and wastes the least space. I think that is a good reason to use it as the default even though it is old. But it may be that I'm just an old fart and I should not stand in the way of progress and current standards.
