From Uncyclomedia, the UnMeta-wiki

es and gl Weirdpedias[edit]

I'm thinking of bringing UnMeta the surviving projects of Weirdpedia (Spanish and Galician) in Wikia created by Renan Jackson (present Aset, of Wikimerda) since he was the creator of both. As the two wikis were not alerted of a possible end, I think I would find them. Both wikis do not have more than 10 articles.

At this point, I am in a conversation with Aset to negotiate the coming of the two here but I will change the name of the projects so that they get the translated name of the original wiki in English, Weirdpedia.

ISO URL Project Status
es https://es.wikimerda.org or https://es.wikimerda.info es.Wikimerda
gl https://galimerda.org or https://gl.wikimerda.info Galimerda

The humor used in the Brazilian version (Wikimerda) relies heavily on themes related to politics, that is, apparently I believe that Wikimerda overlaid the original wiki (Weirdpedia) by being a parodyed version of Conservapedia and RationalWiki, at least on politics. The other articles that do not have something related appear humor similar to the one of Uncy/Illogicopedias. Could these be created as a subdomain of an existing domain (such as es.wikimerda.org, if the existing project is pt.wikimerda.org)? It makes little sense to pay annually for a domain if a project only has 8-12 pages and little activity. Carlb (talk) 17:17, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
I agree, and made the changes to the table. These become definitive. Rhubella selo-02.pngRhubella Marie, the rat sockpreppie 3,563 preppieditsRhubella selo-01.png 02:38, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Question[edit]

A user under the name of 'Carlb82195' has been created on Wikia Uncyclopedia. Since you had already commented there under your original user name, I am presuming this is a sock account. Please confirm here or at Unc Wikia.

It would be safe to assume that any "new" user with no extended edit history of expanding the encyclopaedic content is a sock if they suddenly jump directly into discussion of obscure administrative questions like the transition of individual projects to new servers as their only contribution. Nonsensopedia[edit]

Hey, crat and server admin of nonsa .pl here, we recently moved there from Wikia. We also had a fork last year lead by people who were unhappy with Fandom removing Monobook, they moved to Miraheze (nonsensopedia .miraheze .org). Over the last few months people slowly abandoned the Miraheze fork and started coming back to Wikia. After we've been kicked out by Wikia and we moved to an independent host, pretty much everyone from Miraheze decided to move to nonsa.pl. Until recently, Miraheze had three admins, now they have only one, as two of them (Mr obornik and Polskacafe) left for nonsa.pl. Now the only one left is ZelDelet (the crat) and his sockpuppets, and the Miraheze fork is lacking in content and editors. Now most of their recent changes is Zel ranting about "traitors", "plots" and other things that I would rather not translate. To put it lightly – he said a lot of umm... bad things about almost everyone in the community and literally nobody wants to have anything to do with him.

In this situation – with nonsensopedia .miraheze .org being pretty much a dead toxic wasteland, would you consider redirecting nonsensopedia .org to nonsa .pl? When we talked about it last time on the forum, I still wasn't sure how many of their admins would come to nonsa .pl, now it turns out it's all of them with one particular exception. If you want me to provide you with logs about Zel, I can do that, but it's all in Polish and I really don't like drama, I prefer to settle things based on logical reasoning. Ostrzyciel vel

For some reason an "Anti-LTA" filter prevents me from writing here, so I wrote to you on your talk page on co. I hope this message goes through the filter. ~~Magwac 16:39, 2 April 2019
I'm a bit unsure of what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to get nonsensopedia.miraheze shut down (in which case the issue should be raised there) or are you just looking for a "nonsensopedia" domain from which to serve your new pl: site (in which case I could give you one of .net or .info)? Carlb (talk) 02:04, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
I just want the project to stay alive. Another .net or .info domain wouldn't help at all with the confusion among our readers, I just don't want people to stumble upon this toxic place with "Nonsensopedia" name on it. The two most recent pages on Miraheze (this and this) both have nothing to do with humour (but they are placed in content namespaces) and are rants about plots, traitors and dictators on Nonsensopedia (it's mostly about me being a bloodthirst monster, because I dared not to take orders from Zel, ugh). Most of the discussions taking place there is Zel talking to himself through sockpuppets. Look, since last summer with the help of some talented people I've managed to pull this project back from hell (after the fork things started getting really toxic) and I only want the project to remain alive as long as possible. We are quite different than Uncyclopedia, actually, we take things a little bit more… seriously and we have a really good brand awareness in Poland. Seriously, this year we even went to promote ourselves IRL on conventions, we gave a few talks.
Yes, I know this sounds quite a bit hostile to propose to move a domain from one project to another, but here I'm just trying to do what's best for the future of the project as a whole. You are the one with the domain, so ultimately it is up to you what you decide to do. I can just propose observing both projects more closely for a bit. Yes, I know, we speak Polish which sounds like the devil's dishwasher or something, but still, maybe you can make something of it with the help of some translator. I suggest taking a look at how much content is produced on both sites, how do they promote themselves (we have a FB page, a Twitter account and an Instagram account, they do nothing) and how are they managed (we are having monthly admin meetups on IRC, the closest one being on Friday 17:30 UTC, here you can find the topics we will be discussing).
I hope you make some sense out of it, it's morning where I am and I may be mumbling semi-coherently due to that. Anyway, I hope you have a good look and decide for yourself. Magwac (talk) 07:02, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
By the way, I think they are back to vandalising nonsa.pl – have a look. I strongly suspect the person behind this is 209po, he is a member of the fork's "community" and he has been doing spambot attacks on us since last summer. I wouldn't be surprised if Zel was encouraging these attacks – here are logs from their Discord server from two days ago. From 1:45PM they talk about vandalisms on nonsa.pl and Zel says vandalising nonsa.pl is OK. He also calls us "liar dogs" and a few other very "nice" things too… Just thought you may find it interesting. Magwac (talk) 12:29, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Nonsensopedia again[edit]

Hi, it's me again, yaaay…

I've accidentally noticed you have redirected nonsensopedia.net and .info to nonsa.pl, thanks for that, but to be honest… that's not what I meant and it doesn't help us any. I may have explained the problem not that well, so I'll try to express it again, maybe I'll be more clear this time.

So, the situation is as follows: some people forked Nonsensopedia, moved to Miraheze, the fork started dying a slow death and over the last few months people started coming back to Wikia. After the Wikia Nonsensopedia was forced to move to an independent host (nonsa.pl), 2 out of 3 of their admins have decided to leave it in favor of nonsa.pl. The only one that stayed is their crat, who is famous among the community for doing nothing but drama and bossing people around. People who have moved to nonsa.pl have had most of their creative input moved with them too. After these people left the fork, they were immediately banned by Zel (their crat) for "treason" – if you take a look into that log, Polskacafe is their former admin and UsagiChan their former moderator, they have both moved to nonsa.pl. In case you are wondering – Ambriel is a sock of Zel, he gave it all possible rights on the wiki. Pretty much the only one left there is Zel and his socks. All he writes about (in content namespaces, not forums) are essays on traitors, "dogs", "venomous snakes" and the like. I wish I was joking, unfortunately I am not. Seriously, the last time they wrote ANYTHING was in December. In that time we wrote uhh, a bit more, and that's just the main namespace.

There are also other factors. See, the miraheze fork is present in Google search results. And that is bad for a few reasons. First of all, Nonsensopedia is a really well-known brand in Poland, I think most people aged 18-25 would recognize it without a problem. Having a dead project full of toxic crap coming up in Google is really bad for the brand. If the fork was alive or at least not a toxic wasteland with one crazy guy running it, we would be absolutely fine with it. But here… we don't want people associate us with this thing. Especially some of us who represent Nonsensopedia in real life and for example give talks about it on conventions (this particular one is me talking about free culture in Gniezno). Would you want someone to ask you questions why do you have such toxic content on your wiki? Well, neither would we.

Now, please consider this: the vast majority of editors and admins has moved to a different project along with their work. It would be fair to say that the people have decided democratically "with their legs" which project they want to work on. Look, the only problem now is Zel himself. We don't want one person to destroy our hard work. Wouldn't it be fair if the majority had the right to decide which project should get the "main" nonsensopedia.org domain? With their work migrated to the new host, I think it would be fair. Please, take a longer while to think about this. For almost all intents and purposes, nonsa.pl is a merge of nonsensopedia.wikia.com and nonsensopedia.org, there is just one guy who thinks otherwise. Wouldn't it make sense to redirect nonsensopedia.org to nonsa.pl? Zel still has nonsensopedia.miraheze.org to fall back on...

Anyway, please, take your time to think about this. I just want to do everything to make this project survive another 14 years or even more, I hope you will help us :) Magwac (talk) 15:25, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

"Having a dead project full of toxic crap coming up in Google is really bad for the brand." Hmm, that's how a lot of us have felt about Wikia over the years. FANDOM would do something that served its own interest but harmed the community, the impacted users would take their content and go elsewhere (as is their right under the free licence), Wikia would use SEO to destroy the new project by keeping "a dead project full of toxic crap" open in order to crush the upstart community with the search engine duplicate content penalty. We've been living with this for too many years in too many languages (the Russians forked in 2010, the Americans in 2013 and there's a long list of non-Uncyclopedias with the same issues). You seemingly were fine with this. In one case, I'd even had problems with one of your administrators (User:Szoferka, in 2007) going to projects I was hosting and demanding the community switch to Wikia; the only ones who took the bait were Neciklopedie (cs), but where did it get them? They're safe with Lyrithya now, but their SEO is destroyed - same as anyone else who threw their lot in with Wikia - as Wikia is returning "this wiki is closed" instead of saying where everyone went. That was their decision, not mine.
I didn't destroy Nonsensopedia. Wikia did. They've also destroyed a lot of other Uncyclopedias. It's really not my place to be deciding winners and losers by pulling domains out from existing projects. If your concern were that you wanted a domain which said "nonsensopedia" (instead of just "nonsa") I'd be more than willing to turn nonsensopedia.net over to you... but this doesn't appear to be what you're doing. Carlb (talk) 15:59, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I... don't think you read any of what I wrote. Please, take your time to read this. In Poland we say nigdy nie sądź po pozorach, which means (roughly) never use prejudice. This is especially true here. Magwac (talk) 21:02, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I've opened a ticket https://phabricator.miraheze.org/T5128 (Please remove nonsensopedia.org custom domain from configurations) on Miraheze, as nonsensopedia.miraheze.org appears to be closed (no activity in sixty days). I've also redirected the domain. Carlb (talk) 16:38, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Reformation of Babel[edit]

English for Yandex Translate: You should already know (or not) that here I propose a reform in Babel because it is very old-fashioned compared to Wikipedia. But I don't know where the Wikipedia Babel source code would be (I don't mean view-source:https://wikipedia.org). If you know, tell me. If you probably do not know the future of Babel will be this (I created a specific Babel for Illogicopedia here) and the second list of Uncyclopedias would move here. To make all these changes (and also to exclude some useless articles there), I would like to be Babel's administrator.

Brazil! JPLSilva 23:36, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

There's some info on wikipedia:meta:project portals but it looks like their Babel front page, at least for Wikipedia, isn't actually static content. They are running code (which is checked into gerrit somewhere) which tries to guess the language of the user's browser and determine which Wikipedias get the most pageviews. I doubt that would work here, as everything on this server is behind Cloudflare and, even for the externally-hosted languages, there are no statistics for viewership. If there's a suspicion of using sock puppet, would you rather I check The Pionner for anything? Another thing, it's not just Miraheze's interest, but also Uncy.co users are interested in this problem of removing wikis from UnMeta as I saw in the discord. Dragomaniaco (talk) 02:39, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
en.uncyclopedia.co is involved in a full-on edit war on wikipedia:Uncyclopedia (talk) with various WP:COI editors (Kevindong/Kevindongyt, Zombiebaron, Charitwo) disrupting WP to edit-war out all reference to uncyclopedia.ca from the article. This has been going on since May. There's also a long list of sockpuppets and trolls, many of them impersonating other users or pretending to be from .ca - and, in the finest WP tradition, single-purpose accounts are launching multiple, spurious sock puppet investigations. In general, any of the posters showing up on WP to claim that X (or Y, or Z) is "official" or "the only true Uncyclopedia" are causing more harm than good at this point. The Pioneer is trolling here because he wanted to fork ansaikuropedia.org to create ansaikuropedia.miraheze.org - the admins on ja: had issued some overly-broad range blocks in response to vandalism, but there is no broad consensus to abandon the main Ansaikuropedia (one of the four largest Uncyclopedias, by page count) for his fork. Miraheze in particular seems to be an infestation of attempts to create projects (like "Uncyclopedia2") which have nothing to do with us, but exist just to infringe the mark or the CC-BY-NC-SA copyright. So yes, plenty of trolls from plenty of sources, who have plagued the entire process of getting the en.spoon content (and community) off Wikia and onto more stable hosting. I've had to report multiple bogus WP accounts created with some version of my legal name as impersonators. These antics allow the trolls to keep wikipedia:Uncyclopedia full-protected for months on end, so that no one can update the article to admit that en: is fragmented into multiple factions at this point. Carlb (talk) 09:04, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
I don't intend to distract from the topic at the hand with spillover ugliness from Wikipedia, but since you personally brought this up and it directly relates to the legitimacy of the forum: I'm not sure how you can seriously state without any awareness of your hypocrisy that "en.uncyclopedia.co is involved in a full-on edit war", and "with various WP:COI editors", when all three users you name-dropped (and en.uncyclopedia.co as a whole) have shown full support for including references to uncyclopedia.ca in the article. Kevindongyt (a user on both en projects) recently edited the page to expand on the history of both sites, and even added a link to your Uncyclopedia Mirror. Charitwo (a former Wikia VSTF member with no stake in either site) and Zombiebaron each made one edit to the page, both being reverts of obvious vandalism from COI editors/trolls mass-replacing .co links, with edit summaries such as "I am a editor at Uncyclopedia. The new .ca domain site is the official site and any others are forks and should not be covered." I don't doubt that trolls are trying to get a rise out of both projects/Wikipedia by impersonating users of each wiki. We've recently had waves of trolls at en.uncyclopedia.co pretending to be from .ca (the "real Uncyclopedia", as they claim) on both the wiki and Discord, and I've seen the same editing patterns from trolls hitting .ca. Spike suggested this extends to Wikipedia, and I'm sure this is the case for most of these POV edits, and perhaps even this latest forum. I was edit conflicted by an anon while writing this just now, so you can bet they're here.
At the same time, users who are apparently legitimate .ca admins are getting blocked for socking and pushing .ca links across many Wikimedia projects and outside wikis, purely to bump the SEO of their preferred Uncyclopedia project. You yourself confirmed to Spike in an email back in May that Q788771 was one of your own accounts, and you were recently blocked for socking alongside Bailes2700 (Bailes27?) and Corave. All three of these accounts existed purely to replace .co links with .ca, and to accuse relatively neutral editors such as Kevindongyt (who once again edits both en projects and included links to each + your mirror) of being WP:COI, the same as you're doing here.
I previously reverted some of your edits to foreign wikis where you had replaced .co links with .ca. I mistook your edits for vandalism/general misinformation, and referred to .co as "official" in my edit summaries. This is because .co has been recognized in Wikimedia's interwiki links as [[uncyclopedia:]] for many years, while .ca was a newly created wiki with a domain specifically chosen to mimic the existing site, and you were spamming (and continue to spam) links to it across hundreds of wikis under different usernames. Excluding this small subset of .ca sock accounts, I'm pretty sure the majority of en.uncyclopedia.co and uncyclopedia.ca users are in full agreement over linking both sites whenever possible, and you're probably not going to find anyone legitimately from en.uncyclopedia.co who claims we're "the only true Uncyclopedia" in that regard. Primarily because we lived through the Wikia site trying to scrub all references to us back in 2013, and we're living it again in 2019. Thank you for that, by the way.
As far as the actual topic at hand goes, your server has been totally down for the better part of this last week and beyond, and starting early this year, the UnMeta Discord has been filled with complaints that you're completely unreachable. This forum was probably created by the same troll screwing around on Wikipedia (or at the very least, a troll), but the points still reflect many discussions held on the Discord. It's been questioned whether or not you'll even allow wikis hosted on your server to move, but I don't think anyone has ever been able to get a clear answer from you. If one of your wikis decides to migrate to a different server, will you allow them to safely move their content, or will you continue taking outside websites to small claims court over the supposed infringement of the Uncyclopedia trademark? Supergeeky1 (talk) 17:06, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Wikipedia's handling of the "uncyclopedia:" prefix is not an endorsement of one side over the other, nor does it give either side any legal status as The Official Uncyclopedia™. The shortcut used to belong to uncyclopedia.org back in 2005. It was taken away in 2008 after Wikia redirected the domain over the community's objections; as wikia: already exists as an interwiki link on WP, there's no sense in duplicating that. The fork provided an independent domain again. It's that arbitrary. I saw it happen.
The forum topic was created by a user in Japan - most likely The Pioneer - or was a direct copy of trolling which he was perpetrating by demanding that everything I host be shut down in Forum:Reorganization of the whole Uncycs to make the bad situation which Wikia wilfully created even worse. I deployed a new server last week which is capable of completely replacing the existing server, should I need to go that route, so there's no technical need to move anything. Nonetheless, the "I hate Carlb so I'm going to try to convince various communities to move" tactic is nothing new. pl:user:Szoferka alreadly tried that stunt in 2007, back when she was trying to get a paying job with Wikia, but only cs: took the bait (and where did that get them?). There were also instances of Wikia staff attempting to approach individual users in projects like nl:, which went over like a lead zeppelin.
There are a few clear precedents for how I've handled communities switching hosts. ko: chose to go independent, moving from http://ko.uncyclopedia.info to http://uncyclopedia.kr - where they remain today. cs: made the mistake of moving to Wikia (oops!) so apparently they're your problem now. Oh well. nl: did go independent at one point, then moved back here. The English-language Illogicopedia moved to you folks in 2013, leaving a few other languages stranded here. As far as I know, none of these communities were targetted with lawsuits. On the other hand, a "Domain Park Ltd." was successfully kicked through arbitration in 2008 for parking pay-per-click ads on "desciclopedia.org" and attempting to sell that domain back to me for an unspecified extortionate sum. Any registrant who uses Uncyclopedia-related domain names not to host Uncyclopedias but to claim the project to be "closed", defunct or not a going concern in order to divert that traffic for commercial gain to some other wiki outside Uncyclopedia can expect much worse from me than merely "small claims court" - but ultimately, the Uncyclopedia content belongs to the individual users and is available under a non-commercial Creative Commons licence.
I'm not in this for personal gain. I'm just trying to prevent further damage to the project. Carlb (talk) 17:51, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Funny the user is from Japan - I wouldn't go as foolish as to create Episode 2, however, since at least I now know Miraheze doesn't have enough spaces to host images of large wikis (though I still think .co can do a better job than you, that won't motivate me enough to push myself to create a sock for another forum). Besides, I would not go as silly as to type "MiraHeze". Hello[edit]

Can I have the administrator right on both this wiki and Babel please? Thank you for your understanding! Ahmed03 Whispers 20:06, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

He was blocked at the Uncyclopaedia because he declared that he hated the things I did and that he wanted me never to have my rights as administrator and that I would be blocked indefinitely and for threatening to call an administrator to take away my rights with senseless accusations.

In addition, it vandalized my user page, my sandbox and created articles and templates for articles. Now, the place of the articles is in the Desciclopédia, Uncyclopedia, アンサイクロペディア (Ansaikuropedia) and other wikis, and not in the Uncyclopaedia! The Uncyclopaedia was designed exclusively to house Babel. The contributions he has been making will be more useful in these places and not in the Uncyclopaedia.

Now after he's been blocked, he's adopting a pacifist speech saying he's not going to do any more vandalism and asking him to unlock it. He is suspected of bypassing his lock using accounts Closed (this made a small vandalism creating a useless redirection) and AvliSLPJ (if you have not noticed, it is my user name on the contrary, which is a clear intention to want to offend me) and anonymous IPs. And asking me to use anonymous IPs in Uncyclopaedia itself so that I unlock it is the same thing as being circumventing its blockade and breaking the rules, which makes it increasingly difficult for the user in question to re-edit with complete freedom at Uncyclopaedia.

Brazil! JPLSilva 22:14, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Right, JPLSilva. I prefer to say, these contributions I’ve been making will be more constructive in Uncyclopaedia, but not in those places. Ahmed03 Whispers 17:58, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
It's funny that I said the same thing in the Desciclopédia and you're just saying that right now in front of Carlb! - Brazil! JPLSilva 18:44, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Hey[edit]

Carlb, JPLSilva has done a lot of naughty things on Uncyclopaedia today. She deleted lots of pages, undid random edits, and blocked many users. She thinks they’re constructive when they’re actually not. Please undo all of what JPLSilva edited, unblock all the users she blocked, and restore all pages she deleted. Thank you! And thank you, too, for changing the system messages! I feel comfortable now. But JPLSilva’s at worst a security threat. Take away her administrator rights and block her! About Ahmed03[edit]

I would not like to make complaints to this or that user but I feel duty bound to do so. Unfortunately, despite the good edits Ahmed03 has made, he is stalking and harassing user JPLSilva due to a block he made on uncyclopedia.info in addition to other charges that:

  1. Created sockpuppets to bypass the lock on uncy.info to edit MediaWiki pages that JPLSilva has deleted.
  2. He made complaints to several users here and on UnCommons, even bothering administrators who have been inactive for years, trying to advocate (including) the downfall of the administrator and his replacement by the complainant.
  3. He has made several edits suggesting that we at UnMeta for an unknown reason have changed his username in a clear case of bullying.

As aggravating, I have already given 3 warnings to this user but he continues this unfortunate behavior. I consider his editions good but this is over the line. If I block it, you know that I have blocked all socks that it has created and will surely create here.

The JPLSilva case seems to me to have been misled by editing the userpages of The Bard, which has been inactive since 2011, following an edit by Ahmed03. I just warned him not to edit so he can't believe he's using the same subterfuge the other user is doing. The pages of Cartoonist, The Bard and other inactive users will be closed until further notice.

I regret the misfortune caused. Rhubella selo-02.pngRhubella Marie, the rat sockpreppie 3,563 preppieditsRhubella selo-01.png 01:05, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

First of all, Rhubella, I just wanted her to unblock me. And second, that person's gender is not male, it's female. Ahmed03 Whispers 01:27, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
It's amazing to see this 11-year-old boy (see here, I'm too lazy to adapt the text here) wanting to decide my gender. That's unfortunate. Soon they'll be calling me gay. - Brazil! JPLSilva 23:10, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
In fact, he has no way of editing the namespace pages "MediaWiki" since he and his socks are not administrators. He swindled his lock by editing templates and articles protection pages. - Brazil! JPLSilva 01:22, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I know. 70.71.90.6 has no sockpuppets. Closed has a different IP than me. JPLSilva, are you a bureaucrat? If you are, then I want the admin right. If you are not, then Carlb will do it for me. Ahmed03 Whispers 01:27, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Request to delete my account in uncyclopedia.info[edit]

Greeting Carlb, it's me the Dragomaniaco. I had made an account here a few weeks ago due to an intense vandalism attack in Babel, where I was reversing its vandalism and JPLSilva asked me to create an account here so as not to be confused with that vandal. But now it's been a long time and there are no more vandalism attacks in Babel, so I don't care about this site anymore, so is it possible to delete my account created in "uncyclomedia.info"? On second thought, Rhubeola warned me about new vandals that could recreate my account and attack here. MW upgrade[edit]

Please accept my request above and read the email I sent you on September 18.
I also want to inform you that the wikipedists will make a big update on the Vector skin in the near future (this has already become news in the biggest Brazilian technology sites).[3][4] I tell you this because I really don't want to see a descíclope (no matter if he's a beginner or a veteran) asking in the Forum: Cquote1.svg Why does Wikipedia have a modern look and Desciclopédia doesn't? Cquote2.svg
Brazil! JPLSilva 19:42, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
P.S.: I thought better and realized that this update of Vector puts at risk the existence of the notorious fake logos. Anyway, the notice is given. But, for Sophia's sake, answer my request! - Brazil! JPLSilva 20:27, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
It's likely that our old MW, version 1.31, will need to be upgraded due to issues problems caused by the new PHP version (7.4) that got dumped on the server as part of Ubuntu 20. That will need to be done sometime this week (including re-install of any extensions), and likely will bring in whatever changes Wikimedia is making to Vector? Carlb (talk) 17:11, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
"Desktop Improvements" should not be included in the current version of MediaWiki or Vector, because they are under development and are expected to be finalized by December 2021. You can test the improvements already developed by activating them in your preferences on any Wikimedia wiki. While updating the software, take the opportunity to install the TemplateStyles extension. I beg you. - Brazil! JPLSilva 21:42, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
P.S.: If possible, install the LTS version 1.35 of MediaWiki. And please let me know in advance when you update. I have to be prepared for the earthquake. - Brazil! JPLSilva 21:55, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Carlb, I've implemented abuse filter number 9. This filter prevents any new account from posting a link and being automatically blocked. But the filter, while it works for spambots, might block any novice. This was the only extreme measure I took after April 17th here and in the other two versions where I administer. I need a judgment on this case, as it can happen that someone innocent tries for a real link is blocked by the filter. You may have to edit it to target spambots. mw:extension:Antispam was installed on 24 April 2023 and appears to have mitigated the problem. I'm still seeing 4000-9000 attempts daily to bulk-create spam accounts, but very few of them are getting past the cleantalk.org blacklist and most of the rest are blocked on CAPTCHA. I am from spankingart.org. Wikis need somethimes love (= maintenance). I therefore recommend that you run some maintenance scripts from time to time. I.e.:
