WTF???[edit]
what is the purpose of banning me from the IRC-channel? I was talking to Zombiebaron & trying to resolve a situation that has lasted for too long already. Do you think that shutting other peoples mouths up is a productive way of going about things when you want to work on a project together? Or is it just a show of what you can do when you have the bannination buttons? With this action you are exactly doing what caused the problem in the first place. D. G. Neree (talk) 02:42, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- why are you silent now? Do you think that a good way to become admin here is to block other admins from the discussion? D. G. Neree (talk) 04:09, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- There was no situation until you created one. I have already made clear the reasoning behind my actions, much as Zombiebaron explained his reasoning for wanting his ops back prior; if you don't want to read what is typed for your benefit then nobody can hep you. ~

Sidebar[edit]
Could you figure out what happened with the sidebar? The problem looks the same in FF, IE and Chrome. In UnCommons everything looks good | Cartoonist | Spit it out (talk) | E-mail | | 00:02, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like the problem was that the code was pasted into the local js instead of included like I expected it to be, so when I removed what would have been extraneous styling for the updated global one, it broke it. Fixed now, though. ~

A Record * 176.31.248.206 @ 176.31.248.206 AAAA Record * 2001:41d0:8:9ce:: @ 2001:41d0:8:9ce::  TXT Record @ v=spf1 ip4:176.31.248.206 ip6:2001:41d0:8:9ce::/64 ~all
May or may not need to include the @ ones, depending on whether we want to provide email, or you're already doing that, or they want to use some other provider, of course. Whatever the case, I'll let you know what it's actually ready. Thanks! -— Athyria ༆ 14:04, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- The "@ ones" aren't necessarily related to e-mail; @ is the base domain (ie: inciclopedia.org) and * is any subdomain (for instance: es.inciclopedia.org). I've pointed https://inciclopedia.org and https://necyklopedie.org to you, but they will return "This server could not prove that it is inciclopedia.org; its security certificate is from en.uncyclopedia.co. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection." until you complete the setup on your end. Carlb (talk) 22:08, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

- All right, we'll get on that after we sort out the first four - we've run into a couple of delays with the setup, as we haven't actually done this in awhile and we're massive perfectionists. Do you just want us to use the copy carb has, or do you also/still have an original wiki to import from? -— Athyria ༆ 09:52, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello there, what is the plan regarding the user accounts ? I think it’s very important to mirror the wikia accounts, especially for the administrators and to keep the same community ties. 82.243.252.74 21:57, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- I believe that all users should re-create the accounts once the wiki departed from another wiki farm. Please be aware that neither user data nor deleted images were obtained.

- How do you deal with usurpation ? this could easily lead to vandalism if a malicious user gets administrator rights 82.243.252.74 06:53, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- You should be able to maintain account rights and any general preferences (sadly you'll probably lose your watchlists unless you manually export them now...) as we'll be importing the global accounts off the wikia hub. As such you'll still log in with your usual credentials, though any globally banned accounts on wikia may need to be manually overridden. -— Athyria ༆ 07:12, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Athyria, thanks for your work ! I'm looking to fix the DPL issues, because right now the site is not usable. Historically, I'm the main culprit for the widespread usage, but it worked really well for us, automating many tasks (I do believe a key to retain users and administrators is to simplify their tasks), for many years. Could you point me to the queries that caused you issues ? Thaumasnot (talk) 08:46, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Part of the problem is I don't actually know. We ran into invalid sql, a query joining every entry in the revision table with every page in page, multiple temporary tables being created in the database, and at that point decided to kill the entire thing because what the everliving fuck. We're looking into workarounds, and I do wholly agree that we need such automation to properly engage people, since busywork just kills volunteer drive (I did a whole research project on Wikipedia that found pretty much exactly this), but... this is bad. Seriously. -— Athyria ༆ 14:21, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
By the way, MediaWikiAuth returns an error on log-in. Thaumasnot (talk) 08:54, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thaumasnot: What error exactly, and what account? -— Athyria ༆ 14:21, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- "L’extension MediaWikiAuth n’est pas bien configurée. Assurez-vous que $wgMediaWikiAuthApiUrl est défini dans votre LocalSettings.php avec l’URL de l’API du wiki distant.", which means the extension is misconfigured, and that $wgMediaWikiAuthApiUrl may not be set properly with the API of the remote wiki. I used my wikia account, but I guess any account will return the same error. Thaumasnot (talk) 15:19, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thaumasnot: Thanks... yeah, that usually means we messed up the api endpoint, but I just checked it and it seems to be working when I go there directly. Do you have any alternate accounts you can try, just to be sure? I also noticed I was getting a 500 error on your userpage on wikia, but that's probably not related...
- Anyway, if this happens with multiple, that's also very useful information to debug it... -— Athyria ༆ 15:38, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- My little finger told me the HTTP 500 error on Wikia's version of fr:utilisateur:Thaumasnot's user page is likely because that page is a mess of DPL intended to resemble the main page fr:Accueil in format. You can add that error to your pile of "DPL is evil" observations if you ever get around to filing them as bugs on Mediawiki's phabricator.
- I was seeing "$wgMediaWikiAuthApiUrl may not be set properly" on both fr: and es: earlier yesterday, but it looks to have been fixed as a later attempt to login succeeded. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost admin status which I had on fr: since 2005; it looks like Wikia's API is too outdated to allow a grabUserGroups.php run to succeed. I do have a list of who had bot, admin, bureau and the like as a .pdf file which I stored with the backups a month ago, so the permissions could be restored manually, but fr: had a lot of listed admins as they weren't revoking status for inactivity.
- I can confirm that DPL3 (the version running on pt: en: and most of the other non-wikia uncyclopedias) is breaking on fr:Accueil, on the list of dés.info (UnNews) articles on the main page. It failed that way when I tried installing desencyclopedie.org on the Desciclopédia server; the list of "all of the newest articles in the unnews namespace, by date" was generating some hideous SQL which was saying to take all revisions in the revision table for the time period, then look in the page table to get the page name for each revision, then see if it's in the right namespace, while generating some huge temporary tables on disk (which were flagging the entire database as 'busy', so no one else could use it) and grinding the wiki to a screeching halt. Putting the old version (DPL2, whatever Wikia was using) fared a bit better, but I was still seeing issues where some pages had DPL lists which didn't work (there was one user page made to look like the main page, for instance). It was a question of either removing DPL3 or having the main page take a few minutes to generate, each time. I'd mentioned this at Forum:Reorganization of the whole Uncycs#Stuff likely to break on upgrade to MW 1.31 or 1.32 and Lyrithya's observations are only confirming what I've already seen. WMF runs yet some other extension (mw:Extension:Intersection) on wikinews.org so maybe that's an option? I look at this and wonder how DP is running DPL3 at all, given how poorly it performed on dÉ. Carlb (talk) 16:19, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, it looks like the user groups grabber is only entirely working on some wikis. Appears to have worked for es and cs, does not seem to have on fr and he... It might be related to the fact that wikia wrote their own custom API module for this, though.
- We'll probably add a thing to auto-kill too long of queries (odd that we didn't already have that, unless this was just so bad that wasn't good enough), but... -— Athyria ༆ 18:03, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- And yeah, the error yesterday was because I messed up the config, and then broke the extension for a bit trying to figure out that and another typo, but it does look like someone else has managed to log into the new fr today... -— Athyria ༆ 18:08, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- By default, the Linux distributions seem to set an execution time limit on the PHP side - but killing off the PHP script doesn't stop a "Creating temporary tables on disk" that's already running on the SQL server. I'm also seeing the occasional error like this. DPL = "damned poor logic"? Carlb (talk) 04:38, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- And yeah, the error yesterday was because I messed up the config, and then broke the extension for a bit trying to figure out that and another typo, but it does look like someone else has managed to log into the new fr today... -— Athyria ༆ 18:08, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

- DPL is still acting a bit odd on fr: - part of this may be that it is attempting to display "random item from category" and the categories are largely empty. Could you please try a php maintenance/populateCategory.php --force to rebuild the categories? Carlb (talk) 20:48, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
Hello, I’m being asked by wikia whether they can shut down the desencyclopedie. Do you have everything you need or do you want to delay a bit ? Thaumasnot (talk) 17:36, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Charles De Gaulle yell a bunch of nonsense over the radion[edit]
Hi, I'm from the désencyclopédie and it seems like we may have lost some articles during the transition to the new server. Specificaly articles whose names start with "Test :" (see here), they all redirect to test.uncyclopedia.co. So, the question is : would it be possible to retrieve them or are they completely lost to the ether, forever and ever ? Thanks in advance. WTHellias (talk) 21:04, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed the global interwiki. Hopefully you weren't using it; the pages should all be accessible now. -— Athyria ༆ 22:55, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yay ! Thanks a bunch. But I'm now reminded of another thing we wanted to ask you regarding the rights of the articles, specificaly what licence(s) they fall under. There is a bunch of contradicting informations left from ye olden wikia days and it's quite confusing. This is in regards of a possible commemorative book project we're trying to work on right now (It's quite a nebulous thing to be honest, so sorry if my question is not clear). Again, thanks in advance. WTHellias (talk) 23:48, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
Updating the interlinks[edit]
- I see that fr:Special:Interwiki is still pointing to Wikia for a few wikis which have now moved, such as cs:, de: and he:, while cy: is missing entirely. The Uncyclopedia interwiki tables were already difficult enough to keep updated; the mess is only being made worse by the Wikia carnage. I've also archived a few dead projects which were hosted here (to language xx: as xx.uncyclopedia.info) instead of retaining custom domains for dead wikis; those affect very few pages but I would prefer to bring those links up to date. Unfortunately, no administrators on fr: means no ability to update Special:Interwiki, to update that huge "we're moving" notice on the top of the main page to indicate that this is the new wiki, or fix much of anything else. It might also be worth taking a look at ReCaptcha as an alternative to what's there now as (like en:) fr: is already being infested with spambot registrations. Carlb (talk) 23:34, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- We should probably set up a central interwiki database for the languages on these, or it's just going to be a massive pain. And mass delete all the wikia interwikis, or something. In the meantime, I regrabbed the user rights (it appears to have worked this time), and disabled IP editing for the time being. We can put that back later once people have a working site, or stuff. -— Athyria ༆ 00:15, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- At this point, I've just been using an SQL file with all the updates and having a batch file import it into every local uncyclopedia-related wiki at the database level, one by one. Something like:

Mmm, we were going to use a central repository for this so we needn't update all the interlanguages separately and can just do this once [1], but we can't seem to get anyone to review it. Like... at all. This is very annoying. -— Athyria ༆ 17:43, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'm wondering if some of the smaller Uncyclopedias here might be a suitable test bed for me to try your extension? I know the active wikis (such as Desciclopédia) will want to maintain local control, but a global approach might be of use for "dead" or inactive languages (for example, this) where no one is maintaining them individually. - Apparently Desgali and Çciclopédia are up to date when I tried to resolve this case. Also, I noticed that the wikis that went to .co were left with outdated interlinks. Or even point to the version of Wikia (inciclopedia.wikia, desencyclopedie.wikia, etc) or in some cases displays an old interlink as in the case of Desciclopédia (desciclopedia.ws).

- The desciclopedia.ws domain was registered in July 2007 and largely deprecated in August 2008 in favour of desciclopedia.org. That most likely means that, when the UncycloWikia content was grabbed and imported to .co, Wikia's outdated, garbage interwiki table was transferred with it. All of those links are about a dozen years outdated (if they exist at all) as I'd given up on getting Wikia's technical team to fix any broken interwiki links fairly early in the history of the project. - In this case, I see no alternative but to ask each wiki to solve this problem individually. Good Friday, I must take some time to warn them.

- That depends where they are hosted. I should be able to fix everything on *.uncyclopedia.info as one batch, Lyrithya should be able to fix everything on *.uncyclopedia.co as one batch, but the various independents (Russian, Olbanian, Polish, Korean, the Kamelopedia and Stupidedia...) will each need to fix the mess individually, as will any non-Uncyclopedia sites linking to any of our projects. All the changes in Forum:Reorganization of the whole Uncycs#Interwiki table need to be made to every independent project; there are also quite a few inactive projects here which used to be on their own domains but were moved to language xx: on xx.uncyclopedia.info as they are abandoned. I'd be tempted to make one big master Special:Interwiki list and send it to all of the independently-hosted projects, but I'm still unsure about a few languages which were supposed to be going to Miraheze, but where the import has slowed to a near stop with much content still missing. - As I said, where I live today is a holiday. I have time to warn active wikis. My concern is if the wikis that are in Miraheze can do it after the problems presented in the Polish version that could not do any interlink. The Italian version seems stable but worries about this problem.
- @Athyria, given time, can I leave this burden to work on reviewing the interlinks of wikis housed in .co on your agenda?

Yes. It could be months or years before the .org and .de domains are recovered - if they're recovered. That leaves us with no English-language Uncyclopedia in even the top quarter-million (by Alexa rank), even though the same project in other countries (Brazil, Japan) is in the top 50,000. There are also so few Miraheze projects (just it: and zh-cn:) once I omit wikis that are missing images, content or page history that most of these point here, to you, or to independents for projects like US, Russia, Poland. This is what I have as the list:
There are some weird prefixes in here, like "Olbanian" (olb:, the Russian 'spoon') and "Klingon" (tlh:). Those need to be in LocalSettings.php, something like:
$wgExtraLanguageNames = array(
'ain' => 'アイヌ',
'ryu' => '沖縄',
'cmn' => '正體中文',
'dlm' => 'Dalmacija',
'kp' => 'Kamel',
'rus' => 'Россия',
'olb' => 'Олбанский',
'tlh' => 'tlhIngan Hol',
/* 'yue' => '香港語', */
'zh' => '汉语',
'zh-classical' => '文言',
'zh-cn' => '汉语',
'zh-hans' => '汉语',
'zh-hant' => '正體中文',
'zh-hk' => '香港語',
'zh-mo' => '中文(澳門)',
'zh-my' => '华语(马来西亚)',
'zh-sg' => '华语(新加坡)',
'zh-tw' => '正體中文',
'zh-yue' => '香港語');
